Certified to Meet Marine Industry Quality Standards

Marine and shipbuilding procurement teams require full material traceability and a supplier with a verified quality management system. Whether you are sourcing for a commercial vessel, an offshore platform, or a defense program, the materials you specify must come from a supplier equipped to support your compliance requirements. Sabre Alloys holds the certifications that matter most to marine procurement.

ISO 9001:2015 Certified

Our ISO 9001:2015 certification confirms that our processes for material sourcing, processing, and order fulfillment meet internationally recognized quality management standards. For marine buyers, this means documented traceability, controlled handling, and a quality system that supports your own supplier qualification requirements.

DFARS Compliant

The majority of the stainless steel we supply meets Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) domestic sourcing requirements. For shipbuilders and marine contractors supplying to U.S. Navy programs or other government and defense contracts, DFARS compliance is a sourcing requirement that Sabre Alloys is equipped to fulfill.

In-House Processing and Rapid Delivery for Marine and Shipbuilding Projects

Marine construction and repair timelines are demanding, and material delays can have cascading consequences on dry-dock schedules and vessel delivery. Sabre Alloys is structured to respond quickly to time-sensitive requirements. Our facility includes in-house waterjet and plasma cutting, allowing us to deliver plate and bar cut to your exact dimensions:

  • HD Plasma cutting up to 2.500” thickness steel
  • Standard Plasma cutting up to 6.250” thickness steel
  • 14’ shear that can cut up to ½” thickness steel
  • Bar saw up 16”

We maintain inventory in large and heavy-gauge plate that is difficult to source through standard channels, and our same-day and next-day shipping capabilities mean urgent orders can be fulfilled without extended lead times. Our steel plate meets ASTM A240 standards, and our steel bar meets ASTM A276/A279 standards, ensuring your materials meet the specifications your projects demand.

Marine Stainless Steel Grades We Supply

Sabre Alloys maintains inventory across a range of specialty grades in both plate and bar forms, suited to marine and shipbuilding applications. The grades below represent our primary areas of focus for the marine industry.

Super Duplex Stainless Steel

Super duplex grades offer a two-phase microstructure that delivers superior strength alongside outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking. These properties make them the preferred specification for the most aggressive marine and offshore environments.

2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel Plate and Bar: With higher chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content than standard duplex grades, 2507 provides the greatest resistance to localized corrosion among commonly specified stainless steels for marine service. It is the preferred choice for direct seawater exposure, desalination equipment, offshore platform components, and subsea applications where 2205 does not provide sufficient corrosion margin.

Duplex Stainless Steel

2205 Stainless Steel Plate and Bar: One of the most widely specified duplex grades across marine and industrial applications, 2205 offers approximately twice the yield strength of standard austenitic grades, along with significantly better resistance to pitting and chloride stress corrosion cracking than 316L. It is a common specification for structural marine components, pump housings, valve bodies, heat exchanger components, and process piping in moderate to aggressive chloride environments where weight reduction and long service life are both priorities.

Austenitic Grades

316/316L Stainless Steel Plate and Bar: The addition of molybdenum makes 316L the baseline specification for marine applications among austenitic grades, providing meaningful improvement in pitting and crevice corrosion resistance over 304 in saltwater and chloride-bearing environments. It is widely used in deck hardware, fasteners, boat fittings, marine exhaust components, and equipment where fabrication flexibility and good general corrosion resistance are the primary requirements.

High-Performance Bar Grades

Nitronic 50 Stainless Steel Bar: Nitronic 50 is a nitrogen-strengthened austenitic grade that offers higher strength than standard 316L, along with outstanding resistance to corrosion in seawater and aggressive marine environments. It is a common specification for propeller shafts, pump shafts, and other rotating components in marine service where both corrosion resistance and mechanical performance must be maintained over extended service life.
